Legacy Details

DYSON DC-17 Absolute Animal, includes wand attachments. Located in Bushwick/ Ridgewood near the Jefferson L stop at 1717 Troutman Street. $100.00. (The parts are worth more on the secondary market, FYI).

A friend moved and gave me her trusted and incredibly durable DYSON vacuum cleaner, an older model–the DC-17–not the ball style, but a work horse of a machine. I have a vacuum and don’t need it, so this one is available.

It works fine, but is loud; what I think is the issue is that it may need a new belt for the brush roller (an easy replacement–you can get the bootleg parts on Amazon). When it is in wood floor mode (no brush roller) the motor sounds low and even. When the roller turns on it gets louder, but does not screech like some do when the belts are loose. I guarantee this is a fixable issue, they last forever. I have the original yellow DC-17 from 1999 and it is still going strong.

If I needed the machine I would fix it up, but I don’t.

If you own a Dyson you know about replacing the (easy replacement) parts, you know that YouTube includes tons of videos that talk you though replacements.

All that said, it works fine, has great power, but just sounds loud. I took it apart and cleaned the filters, and gave it a cleaning, so it is ready to go.

It has many more years of life left in it.
