Seeking advice on making a real laptop into a *breakaway* prop that can ideally/ easily be reset.
Hi there Art Cube!
We need your Help! I'm working on a indie short and we are trying to figure out how to make a real laptop into a breakaway prop that can ideally/ easily be reset. We bought 2 matching laptops (see images) and we plan to leave one in tack and the 2nd will be our breakaway prop.
We plan on hollowing it out by taking all of the hardware/ components out of the interior of the device but need advice/ direction on how best to bust it up in a controlled way that we can reset it for multiple takes- if at all possible? Like, is there a special tape or material that would hold it together before the break but bust apart nicely after an impact?
Hoping someone in the hivemind has had a similar challenge in the past and can help point us in the right direction.
ALL ideas/ suggestions/ advice/ tips are welcome!
It's a stunt scene fight where the laptop is busted and the Director said he would ideally like the whole thing to bust apart (so not just the screen, etc.) Please let me know if you have any insight on how to achieve this!

Hi! I would love some more information to see if I have any advice/help.
In what way is it being busted? Is someone taking a bat to it, dropping it, stomping on it, etc./ how much control does the actor have in breaking the laptop? And with the images shown, the material is made of plastic?
Depending on how much the actor can control the smashing act of it, tiny magnets or hot glue + a paint touch up to hide seems may help.
Hi Nicole- thank you so much for getting back to me. Action btw 3 characters: will be #1 clumsily swinging at #2 with the laptop, but #2 ducks. Instead, #1 smashes it into #3’s face.

yes it is plastic, I believe- it is a real HP (old) laptop.
