Holiday Window Displays in NYC & Beyond
Behind the Magic: Holiday Window Display Fabricators of NYC 2024 (and Beyond!)
When the holiday season rolls around, New York City’s streets are transformed into a sparkling wonderland of lights, colors, and larger-than-life displays. But have you ever wondered who’s responsible for this holiday magic? Behind every jaw-dropping Christmas window display is a team of master fabricators — the unsung heroes working tirelessly behind the scenes to craft the impossible.
This year, ArtCube Nation is shining a spotlight on the brilliant creators behind these holiday spectacles. From iconic department store windows in Manhattan to unique installations in Texas, these fabrication shops are the creative powerhouses that make the season unforgettable. Get ready to meet the makers, explore their works of art, and even plan your own Holiday Window Walking Tour.
What is a Holiday Window Display Fabricator?
A holiday window display fabricator is a builder specializing in custom creations for Film, TV, Theater, Events, Activations, and Installations for Brands and Productions. They are experts in material, mechanics, and imagination. These skilled makers transform cocktail napkin sketches and ambitious creative concepts into tangible, jaw-dropping displays that are attractions in and of themselves.
While most Christmas window displays see the final product, fabricators create this “magic of the season” behind the fab shop doors —drafting, designing, planning, welding, carving polishing, painting, installing, and uninstalling every detail.
Big brands, design agencies, and department stores often commission these fabrication shops to bring larger-than-life ideas to the eyes of the public. From custom props and scenic backdrops to moving parts and interactive installations, their craftsmanship turns a simple storefront into a holiday spectacle.

Fab Shop Turns Las Vegas into a Winter Wonderland
While New York City is often seen as the epicenter of jaw-dropping holiday displays, it’s far from the only place where larger-than-life creations come to life. Prop House Design in Dallas is proving that the magic of monumental holiday builds extends well beyond the Big Apple. This year, they brought their talent and vision to two iconic destinations — The Bellagio Conservatory in Las Vegas and MGM’s National Harbor Casino.
Their work is nothing short of extraordinary. At the Bellagio, guests are welcomed by a giant, heartwarming teddy bear that captures the playful spirit of the season. Over at MGM National Harbor, the scope only grows with a display that features an enormous rocking horse, a whimsical snowman (complete with an adorable child holding its nose), a functioning snow globe, and a soaring tree-topper fit for a storybook. Each piece showcases the precision, craftsmanship, and imagination that only expert fabricators can deliver.
These impressive installations are on display until the end of the year, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the spirit of the season. Prop House Design’s work reminds us that while NYC might set the stage for holiday magic, other cities are shining just as bright.

Both displays will be up until the end of the year!
Why Do Holiday Windows Make Us Happy?
New York City is world-famous for its holiday window displays, with flagship stores like Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman unveiling grand spectacles each year and you can just feel the happy energy everywhere.
But what most people don’t realize is that these displays are not just “put up” — they are built by hand. From giant animatronic scenes to intricate paper sculptures, the scale and detail are mind-blowing and the late-night hours are many!
These displays need months of planning, and a few weeks to build, before they’re finally installed, often in the middle of the night to avoid disrupting foot traffic and spoiling the “magic” of the season.
The result? They contribute to the psychology behind holiday joy Holiday Spirit makes us feel more carefree, look forward to traditions, and think about others generously and shopping makes us happy, too.
Displays are temporary by nature, but as I stood back and watched locals and tourists, I saw people from around the world marvel at the displays, trigger surprise animations, take selfies, and capture moments with friends and family in front of these impressive works. In that moment, I realized the impact is far from temporary — these displays become part of cherished memories forever, as they did for me.
Final Thoughts: Let’s Celebrate the Makers
This holiday season, as you marvel at the iconic window displays of NYC, take a moment to appreciate the hidden hands behind them — the fabricators.
