LOW BUDGET/COLLABORATION JOB ALERT
Hello,
I’m looking for an art department assistant with set dec/art director aspirations to help me during prep for the shoot in a lovely home in Koreatown. The house needs to be dressed with a lot of texture as if a hoarder lives there, plus have family photos and a few key props specific to culture in a black American family. I will need somebody who can help forge relationships with vendors and source the dressing for the house in creative and non-typical ways. There might be a bit of begging and borrowing to fulfil the brief. I’m fully aware this is a big ask, I know because I’m making the same investment with my own time. I’m hoping this will resonate with somebody who can fit our project around their own life and helps realise our vision, gaining valuable experience while promoting important stories that are not always heard.
I am the chair of the British Film Designer Guild and during the strike while none of my colleagues are allowed to work commercially, I'm collaborating with a prime time successful writer to create her directorial debut about a subject matter that the entire team relates to on a personal level. This is a non-profit/non-commercial short film for Film Independent's Project Involve being made to promote inclusivity in the industry.
The story is about the relationship of the daughters and mother in an an American black family. After being evicted, a young woman moves back in with her mom who's a hoarder. But they must confront if they'll make room for each other when all of mom's stuff gets in the way of them making amends.
For 30 years and counting, Project Involve has been Film Independent's most vital and impactful program. We're proud to be a leader in the ongoing fight to build a more inclusive and equitable industry by supporting emerging filmmakers from communities underrepresented in film and entertainment.
Our mostly female team is fantastic and inspired, but we basically have ’no budget’ and are putting this together while we are not working for the love of the craft and the subject matter.
The scheme funds 3 days of pay but this only covers the dress day and shoot. I am hoping to find somebody who has the flexibility to assist me remotely on a part time / ad-hoc basis over the next few weeks as well and can volunteer their time outside of the paid days.
$825 total fee

COLLECTIONS AND PREP WITH DESIGNER IN LA: July 10th, 11th, 12th 13th
DRESS AND SHOOT: July 14th, 15th, 16th
